Read more "“A Poet’s Advice to Students”"Invictus is a poem by William Ernest Henley (1849-1903) that always intrigued me, ever since I saw a ‘zen pencils’ tribute to Nelson Mandela over the text (Linked). “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” is by Dylan Thomas (1914-1953), and has always been one of my favorite poems, for no reason other than the sound and flow of it. “Phenomenal Woman,” by Maya Angelou (1928-2014) is a beautiful poem, also issued as a ‘zen pencils’ tribute (also linked) that speaks of confidence and beauty; I have an autographed copy of Angelou’s “Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘fore I Diiie” (1971), which holds a prominent place on my bookshelf and on this list of inspiring poems.
